This week I have TWO photos that I want to share! I couldn’t decide between the two, so I picked both! My blog, my rules! Haha
This first photo is a reminder of both the past and of the future. Earlier this year, I got to meet Pentatonix. For those of you who don’t know, they are a five-piece a cappella group who are the season three winners of NBC’s The Sing-Off, which was brought back after about a year’s hiatus. It’s airing on Dec 9 at 9/8c.
They went on tour earlier this year and I was fortunate enough to rope some VIP tickets, so I took that opportunity by the bull horns and got to sit in on their sound check, meet them, and have this fantastic photo-op!
Well, I’m pleased to say that I get to do it all again in March 2014! And I am beyond excited to see/hear them again! That’s definitely a highlight of the week for me.
This photo is a look that I created using the new Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I just really love how this came out, so I am just really proud at the moment, and I thought I would share!
The combination is as follows:
- Liar on the inner two-thirds of lid
- Nooner in the crease
- Darkside & Blackheart on the outer third of the lid and corner
It’s perfect for daytime and if you want to darken it, you just add more of the latter two shades!
Hope you have a great first week of December. See you soon!
So, it’s that time of the year. Yes, Christmas, New Years, etc. Not those times! The time of the winter skin blues. Well, at least for me.
I get really bummed out during this time of year because my skin just can’t catch a break. Hydration is like a hidden treasure that I just can’t keep. My skin doesn’t know what it wants or needs and when I try to give it some love with moisturizer, it drinks it up in minutes! I can’t catch a break!
Well, this year, I think I’ve found skin care routine that I will be happy with this season, and I will cover that in a separate post. But today, I want to talk about foundations that I believe will help me in my journey to the promised land of hydrated, healthy, and beautiful skin. And there are three of them.
1. Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation in Cocoa Medium (#84), $48 at Sephora
In other words, it brings out a better version of your own skin. It’s like that saying, “your skin, but better!”
This is the foundation I’m using throughout the winter months, when I don’t want anything too matte, but since I’m a naturally oily person, I can’t handle anything too radiant or luminizing. A nice natural finish, with buildable coverage that provides just enough hydration, so that my skin isn’t too dry nor is it too oily.
2. Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation (Mattifying Oil-Free) in Chestnut, $55 at Sephora
This will probably be the foundation that I use the most, mainly because my preference for a foundation’s finish is matte. But there are other qualities to this foundation that makes it a go-to for my winter makeup routine.
Despite the winter being a drying time for skin, I still get rather oily and need something that combats that to my desired level. While this foundation, consisting of kaolinite clay (a HUGE oil absorption), has the capabilities of drying out the skin especially during the winter season; it hides my skin imperfections rather well. It doesn’t feel like I have anything on my face after it sets (which takes about a minute, if that).
I need no touch-ups throughout the day, and a barely use any setting powder. It’s a great foundation, but I can definitely say that it won’t work for everyone, even those with the oiliest skin. Those with dry skin (even normal to combination) may need to stay away.
3. Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup in Fresh Amber, $27 at Sephora
This foundation has been a holy grail for me — especially since I’ve developed acne prone skin throughout my late 20s. I probably won’t use this one as much as the other two, because I will be saving it for those occasions when my skin gets too sensitive and just will not handle anything else. When I’m having a season, however brief it is, of acne breakouts.
Together, these three foundations will get me through this winter. Along with my new winter skin care routine.
Cheers to good winter skin!
So ever since Urban Decay announced a new Naked palette, I have not been able to think straight! Ok, so maybe that’s an exaggeration but I haven’t been this excited about a makeup product since MAC’s first RiRi Hearts MAC collection! And trust me, I was on edge the entire day until I placed my order!
One thing, among others, that Urban Decay has over MAC is there beautifully handled product releases. Sure, they won’t have enough products for everyone during the initial launch, but the purchasing process is quick, simple, no hassle. At least 99% of the time. For me, I was in that 99% and placed my order the minute it became available.
Now this was right before the Thanksgiving holiday, so the palette took a little longer to get to me than I would have liked but — I finally have my grubby little paws on my very own Naked 3 palette. And I am in LOVE!
I honestly didn’t think UD could come up with another installment to the Naked line. If anything, I thought we’d get a “remix” of either N1 or N2 soon (or even something like the Naked Basics 2 — which I’m sure is being worked on right now). I did NOT expect a whole new Naked palette with 12 new colors, all rose-hued. It’s brilliant.
Let’s take a look at this thing!
I was most excited to get the palette myself so that I could swatch it on my skin. To see how it works with my tone. Let me tell you, it works beautifully. As you can see here.
I LOVE this look!
Let’s glance at some swatches together. I’ve swatched them individually, six at a time. And then I watched shades from all three palettes that I thought might look a little similar. Keep in mind, they are ALL different, but some of them are just comparable by tone.
Here are the first six swatches–
And the second six swatches –
I don’t need to tell you how these shadows feel, especially if you own N1 and N2. Creamy, smooth, the same old thing. We always expect this from UD, rightfully so. And they, of course, deliver.
N1, N2, and N3 are definitely in the same Naked family. They share the same formula.
Now looking at these three palettes together, I wanted to see if they shared any shade similarities. We already know that N1 and N2 share one identical shade together — Half Baked. But other than that, there are no identical pairings amongst all three palettes. So, let’s go on the hunt for some cousins!
You’ll notice how the rose-hued shades are really obvious, when swatched next to their cousins. The Naked 3 palette is definitely unique.
Here we go –
Virgin has a pearly finish, while Strange is matte.
If you notice, while all of these shades are very similar, they are still quite different. Some are pinker, cooler, warmer (which are the themes of each palette). There are very distinct differences. And they do wonders to an eye look when you’re looking for shades to blend.
Overall, I am extremely excited for this palette! I can’t wait to use the shades. Something tells me that I’m going to love this palette more than N1 and N2. We shall see!
What do you think of the Naked 3 palette? Is it worth the $52?
The palette can be found on the Urban Decay website. It will be at Sephora in early December. And ULTA shortly after, I believe.
Hope you enjoyed this post!
Even though I am doing Vlogmas, I can’t neglect my love for non-seasonal tunes!
I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this specific album for weeks! Mainly because it doesn’t release in the US until February 2014. Fortunately, for me, I have friends in the UK who love me and don’t want me to have to wait on such great music.
So, I got my hands on a copy of Little Mix‘s second album Salute. In this video, I discuss the differences between their first album, DNA, and their secondary effort of Salute. I compare and contrast — did the girls grow? Is it a different sounds? Are there any individual improvements? What do critics think?
All of that, and more, in this week’s New Music Tuesday!
So, everyone has those Holiday songs that they need to hear in order to get that season started! Without them, for me, the Christmas season hasn’t arrived yet.
For Vlogmas Day 3, I thought I would share what those songs are for me!
In this video, I only share 5 of them because I didn’t want to ramble on and on. But believe me, I have a whole playlist of Christmas must-haves!
I would love to know what your favorite Holiday songs are (and not just Christmas). Please share them in the comments below, if you would like!
See you tomorrow!
Well this past week was Turkey Day! So, of course, my most memorable happening was the BIG dinner I made. For myself.
I decided to stay at home and enjoy the silence for Thanksgiving because I was going to be surrounded by, literally, thousands of people throughout the weekend. It was a great couple of days for solitude. Reading, writing, and reflecting. I have no regrets.
But the food was the best part, of course. And I must say, I did a damn good job this year! What do you think??
Hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving!
Can you believe it’s already time to start Christmas stuffs?? Crazy!
